Bollywood filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri recently shared screenshots of the abusive messages and threats he received on social media after he criticised Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone‘s Pathaan song Besharam Rang.
Taking to Twitter, Vivek also hinted at Shah Rukh Khan‘s comment on ‘negativity’ on social media platforms.
Vivek shared a snapshot of a message that read, “I’m searching for you. I’ll enter your home and blow your brains out). Just watch. Or delte ur recent tweet (sic).”Along with the photos, he tweeted, “Badshah was right. There is negativity on social media. (But we are positive).”
Shah Rukh’s comment
Amid Pathaan controversy, Shah Rukh recently attended the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) where he talked about the negativity on social media.
He had said, “The collective narratives of our times are shaped by social media. Contrary to the belief that the spread of social media will affect cinema negatively, I believe cinema has an even more important role to play now. Social media is often driven by a certain narrowness of view that limits human nature to its baser self. And its somewhere that negativity increases social media consumption and thereby increases its commercial value as well. Such pursuits enclose the collective narrative making it divisive and destructive.”
When Vivek reacted to Besharam Rang controversy
A few days back, the filmmaker took to his Twitter account to share a video of a girl calling out Besharam Rang from Pathaan, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.
The girl accused the makers of the film of spreading “ashleelta” with the song. Sharing the video on his Twitter, he wrote, “WARNING: #PnV video against Bollywood. Don’t watch it if you are a Secular.”
Besharam Rang Controversy
The song sparked outrage after Deepika was seen donning a “saffron bikini” in one of the scenes in the song. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra called her outfit in the song “objectionable” and threatened makers to stall the film’s release.
Several political leaders and Hindu organisations also claimed that the use of the saffron/orange colour in the song was aimed at insulting Hindutva.
Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming projects
Vivek Agnihotri has already begun filming his next anticipated film ‘The Vaccine War’.
‘The Vaccine War’ is touted to be a tribute to the endless support and dedication of the medical fraternity and scientists. As this subject is very crucial, especially in the post-pandemic era, it took Agnihotri almost a year to research the subject and present the facts.
